Juncos Are Amazing

I love Juncos. They are amazing little birds. With the first brisk fall weather they begin showing up in my yard. I am fascinated by the tremendous variety and detail in their plumage's. I've only seen a few in juvenile plumage and they are gorgeous. I hope to get pictures of them next summer.

In the meantime, here is a Pink-sided Junco thoroughly enjoying my bird bath.

A Sweet Fall Migrant

Yesterday (10/18/08) I had a great little bird visit my feeders - a White-throated Sparrow. These birds are not commonly seen in Colorado, but they are regular in the fall somewhere in Colorado. I had one in my yard last year on November 16th. This one is a whole month earlier! I haven't gotten a photo yet, but here is a bit of a blurry one from last year.

Falling

Lesser Goldfinches enjoying a bath and a Scrub Jay a fall visitor from the foothills.

I love the fall. The smell of the air, crisp, crunchy leaves falling, different birds visiting my yard. My birdbath has been a favorite place lately.

Here is Al up a tree trimming some branches so we can see into a big bird house we have up high.

I've taken to mowing the leave in the grass rather than rake and pile and haul away and it is working surprisingly well.
