Bird Banding In My Yard II

We caught a flicker! We caught a flicker!Scott and I ran outside, one on each side of the net. We didn't want to miss this girl!
She was most displeased and voiced that displeasure loud and long.
Look at these feathers.. interesting color, no? I'd venture to say she is an intergrade or mix between red-shafted and yellow-shafted.
Scott Rashid getting the band on, she's still yelling.
We had her less than 4 minutes total before we released her.
Here's a peek at her pale wing linings.
And the outside.
I can't print what she's saying to me, sorry.
What do you think? Pure red-shafted or some level of intergrade?

Bird Banding In My Yard!

It was an exciting day when a friend of mine, Scott Rashid, wanted to come over and band Red-winged Blackbirds in my yard. Funny thing was, we never caught any Red-wings!

Here is a little Junco leg after banding.Checking out the tail feathers.
Such a beautiful little bird.
What the heck is is? Female Oregon?
Very dull plumage, but look at that long tail.

Mountain Shadows III

I kind of wished this trail went on forever. It was so peaceful and quiet.
Shhh.. listen.
And then you turn around to see this kind of view. It really took my breath away.
And knocked Pam clean off her feet.

Mountain Shadows II

This was a lovely road. We had it to ourselves.Things got pretty sketchy here. Almost erupted into a severe snowball fight.
But I opted for snowman building instead.
We found this cool trail to a yurt. I loved the shadows in the woods. See the moose tracks?
I think that's why there is Moose Tracks Ice Cream. You have to make it up because all you ever see is tracks.
